Sunday Sept.13 from 1:00 to 4:00pm is the day for Grandparents are Tops at the Everett Children’s Museum! If you would like to take a hand in turning or just look, come on by! The Museum is located at 1502 Wall Street in Everett (children 12 and under FREE).
The 26th annual Bellingham Parks Kid’ Fest at Bloedel Donovan Park, on the shore of Lake Whatcom, is being held August 1st. This is a completely FREE family event that showcases a wide variety of services and opportunities for children and their families in Whatcom County. In addition to woodturning by the NWWT, there will be a petting zoo, mini golf, inflatables, Lego fun land, face painting, balloons, martial arts, play dough, crafts, prize wheel, obstacle course, bike course, kayak demos, robotics, climbing rock wall, and MORE!
NWWT regularly showcases 8 or more lathes. We normally set up around 10am. The Kid’s Fest starts at 11am and ends at 3pm. Lunch is provided by participating organizations for the turners. We turn as many tops as we can, and there are typically more than twelve hundred kids and parents that attend. Contact Dave Blair at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 360-733-3911. Bring as many top blanks as you can! NWWT will be set up in the shade at the entrance to the park from the parking lot. Dave Blair will have a sign up sheet at the July meeting.
Mount Vernon’s Children’s Festival is an annual celebration for area children. This year it will be occurring on July 18th, 2015. Summer will be in full swing in the Skagit Valley. Consequently, the festival will be a wonderful way to enjoy another perfect day with some really enjoyable folks.
The festival draws a variety of vendors and display booths. However, the top turning demonstration by Northwest Washington Woodturners is generally the most popular attraction! To make this happen, we need MANY club volunteers to turn tops to give to the children!
Call (3608549909) or email (email@example.com) Dennis Shinn to join in the fun on a great day and for a great cause. Also, a signup sheet will be available at the next regular (June) meeting for those who plan to participate. We need a few more volunteers from the noon to 4:00 times to help round out the group.
This is always a great event that also provides an opportunity for the club to promote the craft and art of wood turning. Thank you in advance for your help and involvement.

Woodfest is an annual celebration of woodworking and student achievements. This year it will be occurring from April 11 & 12, 2015. It is at the beginning of Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and is a sanctioned event of the Tulip Festival. Consequently, Woodfest is a wonderful way to begin enjoying the many activities scheduled throughout Skagit County.
Woodfest aims to draw a variety of vendors and display booths from chainsaw carvers, wood turners, traditional carvers, wood crafters, artisans, high school woodworking exhibits, and educational exhibits.
Woodfest also invites schools from around Skagit Valley to bring their woodworking crafts for the Student Competition as well as Alumni to show off previous work.
In addition to all the wonderful wood-related vendors, visitors may also tour the many carvings and murals in downtown Sedro-Woolley, enjoy and bid on items at the silent auction, and drink espressos and Italian sodas as well as eat food and candy from Sedro-Woolley High School Associated Student Body Concessions.
Northwest Washington Woodturners has had a long standing partnership with Woodfest through contributing to the silent auction, display and sales of our work, and live wood turning demonstrations. This year we are once again helping to promote wood shop programs in our area schools. We will have several of our mini lathes set up for club member use along with the large Robust lathe (if you have something more ambitious to work on). Two display/sales tables will be available; one will be for donations of members’ work with the proceeds going to our Educational Outreach program managed by George Way. The other table will be available for sale or display of your work.
This year due to a scheduling conflict the event will be held in the Cascade Middle School gym rather than at Sedro-Woolley high school. Cascade is located on SR9 about a long block from the junction of SR 9 and 20 on the east side of Sedro-Woolley.
A signup sheet will be available at the next regular (February) meeting for those who plan to participate. This is always a great event providing an opportunity for the club to promote the craft and art of wood turning. Thank you in advance for your help and involvement.
