The best way to learn is join a club. There’s no better way to learn than to watch another turner in-person and ask questions or to have them mentor you. But we also have lots of resources that will help develop your skills and knowledge.

Sawdust Saturdays
Sawdust Saturdays usually take place on the last Saturday of the month. The are held in Bayview, WA at the workshop of member Gerrit Van Ness (directions emailed to members who sign up). Time is 9am to 3pm and includes a break for lunch around noon. Plan to bring your lunch as there are no restaurants or take outs nearby.
Cost is $25 (includes refreshments and supplies).
Sessions are generally geared toward novice turners, although on occasion more advanced topics are presented.
Our club is fortunate to have a location provided by Life Member Garret Van Ness. The club has fully equipped the space with tools, chucks, and nine quality Jet 1221 lathes. This is where most hands-on learning and turning activities happen.
Directions to the Van Ness studio at 12505 Parkside Lane, Bayview.
If you’re coming north or south on the I-5 freeway, exit at #231. This is the exit just north of the Route 20 exit. Head west on Josh Wilson Road. Josh Wilson road is on the west side of the freeway, immediately north of the southbound on ramp to the freeway. Go 6.3 miles to the end of Josh Wilson Road (any further you will be in Padilla Bay). Turn right on Bayview-Edison Road, and approximately 200 yards to the north is Farnham Ln. Turn right on Farnham and immediately ahead is Parkside Lane, a private road.
Parkside lane turns left immediately behind Bayview State Park. Do not turn up the first driveway you come to (next to an electric meter) ...this is for the home immediately to the south of the shop. The house you want is dark teal green with two tan outbuildings. If you are coming from Rt. 20, turn north on Bayview-Edison Rd. This is the Farmhouse Inn intersection. Stay on Bayview-Edison Rd. approximately 3 miles. You will come to the small community of Bayview.
The last street before Bayview State Park (two blocks past the boat builder) is Farnham Ln. Turn right on Farnham and immediately ahead is Parkside Lane, a private road. Parkside lane turns left immediately behind Bayview State Park.
Do not turn up the first driveway you come to (next to an electric meter) ...this is for the home immediately to the south of the shop. The house you want is dark teal green with two tan outbuildings. When arriving at Gerrit's please stay on the developed driveway. There is a natural drainage course that crosses his yard. The grass areas are very soft and could capture a vehicle.
